ONE of the biggest sailing events in the North-East will get under way on Saturday.
Hundreds of sailors, from novices to champions, will be going for gold at the Derwent Regatta Week, featuring a series of special events to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The event will be held at the Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club.
Racers will compete in a seven-day programme for a range of boats at the 1,000-acre reservoir near Blanchland, County Durham.
On Tuesday, June 4, there will be special Golden Jubilee races on the water, followed by a traditional outdoor street party for children, games and an evening Jubilee barbecue.
Organiser Sylvia Hull said: "Derwent Week has become established in the sailing calendar as the week to come to for good sailing.
"The racing is of the highest quality, but we also aim to cater for newcomers and make sure that the week is fun for everyone.
