Stockton Borough Council is urging residents to plan properly for jubilee street parties, by contacting the authority about arrangements and tidying up afterwards. The council will provide rubbish bags and their collection.

PUB RAIDED: More than £100 worth of spirits and alco-pop type drinks and CDs were stolen from Leo's pub, in Redcar's Esplanade. Cleveland Police are appealing for anyone with information to ring (01642) 302626.

MUSIC FESTIVAL: The Village School Chamber Choir from Thornaby have been invited to sing at the National Festival of Music for Youth on July 2. The choir have already won 14 out of 15 competitions entered. Their programme includes Elvis Presley and Cesar Franck.

FUN DAY: The Thornaby Jubilee Group is holding a fun day at Asda Thornaby on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm. At noon, a jubilee queen will be crowned. POPULAR BENN: Tickets to see veteran parliamentarian Tony Benn talking about his life in politics, at Middlesbrough Theatre tomorrow night, have sold out. Theatre manager David Lindsey said: "The enthusiastic response to his visit has greatly encouraged us in programming more events of this type in the future."

NEW STILE: Vera Baird, MP for Redcar is rolling up her sleeves today to help pupils from the Lakes Primary School, Redcar, build a stile to improve access to Coatham March nature reserve. The project has been organised by Middlesbrough Education Network and the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust
