PROPOSALS for a sex shop in Darlington's town centre have met with strong opposition.
The council has received more than 100 objections to plans by Leeds company Principal Enterprise to open a sex establishment in Bondgate.
The shop would be close to Bondgate Methodist church and several parishioners have written to the council to oppose the shop.
It is also yards from a proposed doctors' surgery and counselling centre for victims of sexual abuse.
Objectors have been invited to attend a meeting of the licensing committee on June 19 when the application for a licence will be heard by councillors.
People who are against the plans can apply to speak at the meeting, but they must inform the council beforehand.
A council spokesman said that it was still receiving objections to the plans despite the closing date for objections having passed.
There are two licensed sex shops in Darlington, in Grange Road and Victoria Road
