TWO disabled parking spaces are to be introduced for an experimental six months in Newsteads, Aiskew.
However, an 11-name petition by local people had called for a residents' parking scheme because a local garage used part of the road as an overflow car park and storage area.
North Yorkshire's county committee for Hambleton agreed the spaces because the road was lightly used.
The petition claimed that parking by non-residents, including the garage, made it difficult for householders, some of whom were disabled, and visitors to find spaces.
Such parking effectively halved the width of the road, causing concerns that emergency services could find their way blocked.
Traffic management officer Ian Beighton said disabled parking bays should help those with greatest need.
