Hens stolen: Six brown hens and six black hens, valued at £10 each, a carry case for chickens, worth £20, and a rat trap, worth £15, were stolen when four wooden buildings were broken into on a smallholding at Sand's Hall roundabout, near Sedgefield, between 8pm on Monday and 7am on Tuesday.
CIRCULAR WALK: A ten-mile circular walk in Weardale sets off from the car park at the east end of St John's Chapel at 10.30am on Saturday. Places do not need to be booked, but there is a charge of £2 for adults and £1 for children, the over-60s and the unwaged. Walkers are asked to take a packed lunch. For details, call 0191-383 4144.
GARDENS OPEN: Barningham Park gardens are open on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm as part of the National Garden Scheme. Admission is £2.50 for adults with children under 14 admitted free.
COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning takes place at Middleton-in-Teesdale Methodist Church on Monday, from 10am to 11.30am. Proceeds are in aid of Newbiggin Methodist Chapel funds.
POLICE SURGERY: Willington beat officers are available to talk to members of the public at Saturday morning surgeries from 9am to 10.30am in the Community Partnership Office, in the High Street.
COUNCIL MEETING: A meeting of Sedgefield Borough Council's development control committee will be held tomorrow in the council offices in Green Lane, Spennymoor, from 10am.
JUBILEE SALE: A car boot sale to raise funds for a jubilee party at Ireshopeburn, in Weardale, is being held from noon at the Weardale Inn, on Sunday. Cars and van pitches cost £5.
PRAISE EVENING: An annual Sankey praise evening featuring Stanley Male Voice choir, takes place in Cotherstone Methodist Chapel on Saturday, at 6.30pm.
OPEN DAY: The Rosedale and Victoria Allotment Society, in Willington, will hold an open day on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
PARK OPENS: Children from the village school will open the play park in Staindrop at 11.20am on Saturday.
Farmers' market: A farmers' market takes place in Barnard Castle market place from 10am on Saturday.
