A MEMORIAL service in honour of a Special Constable who was murdered by an IRA gunman will be held on the tenth anniversary of his death.
Glenn Goodman was mown down while out on a routine patrol in North Yorkshire on June 7, 1992.
On that date this year hundreds are expected to turn out for the special service in his memory at St Mary's Church in Tadcaster.
Among those who will be there are his widow Fiona, son Tom, now ten, and his parents Brian and Margaret from nearby Ulleskelf.
Also attending will be Sandy Kelly, the PC who was accompanying Glenn on that fateful patrol. He was severely wounded in the incident and has since left the force. "My family and I are very pleased that North Yorkshire police have chosen to remember Glenn in this way," said Mr Kelly yesterday.
"The events of June 7, 1992 are still vividly in my mind and as a result I think of Glenn every day.
"I may have only known him for six hours prior to the shooting but the memories that I have of him will stay with me forever."
After the service there will be a short procession through the town to a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial stone erected after the murder.
* IRA gunman Paul Magee and his accomplice Michael O'Brien were caught and jailed after the killing - but both have since been released under the terms of the Good Friday agreement.
