A COLLEGE is urging people to get healthy and have a chance to win thousands of pounds in a team challenge.
East Durham and Houghall Community College, in Peterlee and Durham City, is taking part in the Health for Life National Challenge, which involves teams clocking up challenge points for exercise.
The college has linked up with leisure and health centres in Durham, which will get together teams of ten people and provide each of them with three workbooks of fitness regimes. Participants clock up points as they work through the regime and afterwards they are assessed by a college tutor.
Each participant who completes the challenge will gain a Foundation Studies in Exercise Certificate, which is a nationally-recognised qualification.
The club that accumulates the most points from all its teams, by February next year, will receive a commemorative plaque and £10,000 to invest in new equipment.
The captain of the team which has accumulated most points will win £5,000 and each of the winning team members will receive vouchers worth £250, to use at JJB Sports.
