AIR cadets have said goodbye to a popular officer who has left their training corps after 16 years.
Flt Lt Lyn White has led the 2505 Bishop Auckland Squadron for 11 years but has been given a new role in charge of training and development in the Wing of the Air Training Corps in Newcastle. She joined the corps as a civilian instructor in 1986 and was commissioned three years later. After 18 months, she left Bishop Auckland to set up a new 2505 squadron in Newton Aycliffe, returning as commander in 1991. Her successor is John Stott.
Cut free: A woman had to be cut free from her car after a head-on collision in Middlesbrough. Firefighters rescued the motorist, believed to be in her twenties, after the accident involving three vehicles at the junction of Stokesley Road and Stainton Way, in Hemlington, just before 9pm on Monday. She was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
CASE ADJOURNED: A man acted as a manager while he was bankrupt, Teesside Crown Court heard yesterday. Walter Davison, 57, of High Barnes Farm, Thrintoft, Northallerton, admitted a charge of acting as a manager of a company while an undischarged bankrupt between January 20, 1997, and March 21, 2000. He denied six charges of obtaining credit without disclosing he was a bankrupt and the prosecution accepted the pleas. Judge Les Spittle adjourned the case for reports to be prepared and said sentencing would take place on August 28. Davison was released on bail.
Money given: A house for girl guides in the region has been helped thanks to the Yorkshire Bank Charitable Trust. It has donated £250 to Girlguiding UK's Cleveland branch, for the guide house at Egton Bridge, near Whitby. Janet Jameson, president of Girlguiding UK Cleveland, formerly The Guide Association, said she was delighted with the money which would be used to make improvements to the house. The house provides the girls with a holiday home.
schools cash: Education chiefs are hoping to land a £45.8m grant to develop new schools and refurbish existing buildings in a needy part of Teesside. Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has successfully applied for a share of £900m available to local education authorities across the country as part of the Government's private finance initiative.
sex charges: A 59-year-old man charged with a series of sex offences against a young girl appeared before Hartlepool magistrates yesterday. Norman Guffick, of Benmore Road, Hartlepool, is accused of four counts of indecent assault on the girl between 1974 and 1980. He was granted bail and must reappear before magistrates on June 12.
Man found: The driver of a black and yellow taxi who may hold vital information in connection with a serious offence that occurred near Trimdon Avenue in Middlesbrough on May 25 has come forward after an appeal for witnesses by Cleveland Police.
VeinS clinic: A clinic has been opened by Woodlands Hospital, in Darlington, to treat red veins, spider veins and unsightly red spots on the legs and face.
