TOWN centre bus stops in Darlington are due to be altered to make them more convenient for passengers and drivers.
Services are being revised to ensure that those with common destinations use the same, or adjacent stops, wherever possible.
The idea is to prevent too many buses using one stop and to cut out unnecessary circling of the town centre.
At present buses approaching from West Row heading for Yarm Road have to operate via Tubwell Row, Crown Street and Northgate to reach the stop in Prebend Row before exiting via Tubwell Row and Stonebridge.
Moving the stop for Yarm Road services into Tubwell Row will enable them to travel directly from West Row to Tubwell Row.
One stop - Stand B- on the western side of West Row will be removed entirely and the adjacent stop will be used only for setting down passengers.
That will enable the two bus shelters to be refurbished and relocated to the stop outside the Nag's Head in Tubwell Row, which is to be extended and split into two distinct stops.
Another Tubwell Row stop between Church Row and East Row is to be upgraded from a setting down point to allow passengers to board.
New timetable and route information will be provided at each stop in advance.
