YOUNG rugby players at Aysgarth school took part in a sponsored run to raise £1,000 for the Bedale Riding for the Disabled group.
The school's 1st XV rugby team ran from Aysgarth Village to the school in Newton-le-Willows, near Bedale. They also helped out regular volunteers at one of the group's riding sessions.
Carl Rycroft, the school's director of sport, said it was a good experience for all concerned and gave Aysgarth pupils a chance to work with less fortunate children.
He added: "We try to support local charities, as we feel it is important for our pupils to appreciate the needs of other children in the community.
"Such sponsored events also help to foster team spirit at Aysgarth and an understanding of the value of working together to achieve a common goal."
