Former South African captain Hansie Cronje has been killed in a plane crash.
The 32-year-old's death was confirmed by the South African Sports Ministry.
The light cargo plane, which was on its way to Bloemfontein, came down in the mountains near the city of George. It is believed poor weather conditions prevented the plane from landing.
Cronje was banned from professional cricket for life in October 2000 for his role in a match-fixing scandal.
A former South African teammate of Cronje, Gary Kirsten gave his reaction to the news: "It's a terrible shock, it's a tragedy, he was a great friend of mine.
"As most people remember him, he was a great cricketer. I knew him better than most but he was a good friend, he was good for my career and he got the best out of me."
Reports suggest three bodies were found at the scene of the crash.
