CHILDREN under the age of 16 are being allowed into one of the region's top attractions for free.
The Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, County Durham, has introduced the new price structure in time for the school holidays so a family of five, including two adults, can visit for £10.
Single parents are also catered for and can visit with up to three children for only £5, saving £7 on previous prices.
Carers accompanying disabled visitors, tour guides and organisers of group visitors will also gain free entry.
Dr Anne Allen, audience development manager at the museum, said: "We think price is a determining factor for many families, particularly because most people visiting the museum have to consider travel costs as a well as ticket prices."
The museum introduced a club for seven to 12-year-olds in January to encourage youngsters to enjoy galleries.
The Merlin club, named after its swan mascot, already has 70 members who receive free admission to family fun events and a newsletter, and are given a say in ideas for new galleries.
The museum already reduces prices for visitors on the first Saturday of each month for its regular craft markets.
