A FORMER evacuee, who spent a year at Husthwaite village school, near Thirsk, paid a return visit last week.
Sir Christopher Ball, now an education advisor to the Esmee Fairburn Trust, joined Dr David Hope to officially open a £200,000 library at the school, complete with IT equipment, classroom and playground.
It was Sir Christopher's suggestion five years ago that the school be chosen to pilot a reading scheme.
Funds have been raised by the children, Friends of Husthwaite School, parents and the local community, the Esmee Fairburn Trust and North Yorkshire County Council.
