POLICE have warned that three boilers stolen from cottages in Teesdale could explode if they are connected to domestic gas supplies.
Thieves broke into the homes in Copley between 3.30pm on Thursday and 11am on Friday and took the Baxi Combi boilers.
Detective Constable Geoff Wall, of Barnard Castle CID, said: "These boilers have been specially adapted for use in the cottages and, if they are connected to a domestic gas supply, it is possible they could explode.
"If anyone knows of their whereabouts, we would like to hear from them."
The boilers are white, with the word Baxi on the front in chrome lettering.
They had been wall mounted but not connected.
Two 28in Wharfedale televisions, a tumble drier and two microwave ovens were also stolen.
A white Ford Transit van was seen in the area at about 9.40pm on Thursday.
Police are asking anyone with information about the theft or the vehicle to call (01833) 637328 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
