Police are appealing for witnesses to a road accident that left a cyclist with head injuries.

The incident, which involved the cyclist and a green BMW car, happened at about 2pm on Friday, at the Blue Bell roundabout, Acklam Road, Middlesbrough. The cyclist, believed to be aged about 30, was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital, where he was due to have surgery for his injuries. The car driver was unhurt. Ironstone gems: Ironstone carvings from Eston, made in the first half of the last century, form a new exhibition at Kirkleatham Hall Museum, Redcar. The 40 pieces, featuring busts of kings and queens, war memorials, bibles and trinkets, have been put into the museum's collection and displayed by 15-year-old Robert Taylor, from Eston Park School, as part of work experience. The collection was owned by the late John Kirton of Normanby, whose grandson travelled from Southampton to deliver the items.

take care: Drivers heading out of Hartlepool are being urged to drive carefully while work is being carried out on the A689. The inside lane of the westbound carriageway, from Truro Drive to Sappers Corner, Greatham, is being closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Jubilee spirit: The Hartlepool People's Centre, in Raby Road, held a jubilee celebration on Saturday. There were stalls and bingo and visitors were able to step back in time to enjoy a soup kitchen and listen to music from the 1950s.

Charity jump: Peter Urwin, a development officer at Endeavour Housing Association, is taking part in a 150ft bungee jump at the Rudds Arms, Marton, today, to raise money for the national Transplant Sports Association.
