CHILDREN from a North Yorkshire community have been handed gifts to ensure they have a lasting memento of the 50th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne.
Easingwold Town Council bought 600 mugs to present to youngsters as a souvenir and the Mayor, Councillor Diane Gallon, handed them out at the Galtres Centre yesterday.
"There wasn't that much support for a special Golden Jubilee event in the town, but we wanted to give the children something to remember the occasion by," she said.
"The mugs bear a silhouette of the Queen, and the crown on one side and the town council's crest on the other so there won't be any others like them elsewhere."
Children unable to collect their mug yesterday can still do so by contacting the town council clerk's office
