PUBLIC toilets in the moorland village of Egton, near Whitby, which were set for closure by Scarborough Borough Council, are to stay open after all.
The borough authority argued that tourists could still use toilets in nearby Egton Bridge, a mile away.
But agreement has now been reached between the parish council and Scarborough council, which has decided to transfer the freehold of the toilets to the parish and so make it responsible for the running costs.
