Exhibition art up for sale
Paintings produced over the past three years form the basis of a new exhibition by former North Yorkshire artist Harold Cook. Paintings of Middleham and Ludlow opens at the Old School Arts Workshop this month. It includes landscapes and still life work, depicting shells, flowers, fish and domestic objects. Much of the work will be for sale at a private viewing on Thursday, June 20. The exhibition will run until Wednesday, July 17.
VOICE OF AMERICA: As many as 60 young choristers from Albany, Georgia, will be singing at the Richmond Methodist Church next week. The Hosanna Youth Choir from the American United Methodist Church performs from 7.30pm on Tuesday. A collection will be taken at the end of the programme.
BAPTISM DISPLAY: Christenings through the ages will be recalled in a display of pictures, gowns and other memorabilia at St Peter's Church, Dallowgill, near Ripon, on June 29 and 30. A celebration of baptism service will be held on June 26, at 7.15pm.
RAILWAY TIME: Visitors to the Nidd Valley Railway Exhibition on June 22 and 23 will be able to try their hand at driving the Flying Scotsman with a computer simulation of the Settle-Carlisle line at Nidderdale Museum, Pateley Bridge.
DRAWN SWORDS: Pupils from Kirkby Malzeard Church of England Primary School, near Ripon, will perform with the Highside Longsword group outside Kirby Stores on Saturday.
FLATS OUT: A planning application to build 24 apartments at The Abattoir, Castle Ings Road, Knaresborough, has been withdrawn, Knaresborough Town Council has been told.
TREE STAYS: Harrogate Borough Council has rejected an application to cut down a pine tree protected by a preservation order, in Smithson Grove, Boroughbridge.
FAIR RETURNS: The village country fair at Sawley, near Ripon, will be held on the green on Sunday, June 30, from 1pm. The fair was cancelled last year because of the foot-and-mouth disease crisis.
