A COUPLE had a lucky escape when their car rolled into the sea while they enjoyed an intimate moment on the back seat of their car.
It is believed their antics caused the handbrake to fail and the Vauxhall Corsa rolled down a slipway into the North Sea.
The frisky pair decided to celebrate the jubilee in their own way in their car, just after midnight yesterday. They parked the vehicle on the slipway at Hendon promenade, Sunderland, and climbed into the back.
But just minutes later there was total panic when the car rolled into the sea.
Fortunately, the car rested on shallow ground, but it was swamped with sea water and the pair were forced to climb out of the windows.
A passer-by called the police when he was approached by the embarassed, partially clothed couple
They were taken home by the police.
A Northumbria force spokesman said: "It certainly raised a smile, a nod and a wink. Talk about being caught with your pants down. The couple were very embarassed to say the least."
