A CENTRE dedicated to mental health services is to be opened by Durham City MP Gerry Steinberg today.
The opening ceremony of North End House, Durham, follows a £750,000 refurbishment.
It will now become the base for child and adolescent mental health services and the Durham Community Mental Health Team.
Psychiatrists, nurses and other County Durham and Darlington health staff will work there with social services to deliver a range of services for local children and adults.
Jo Turnbull, chairwoman of County Durham and Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust, said: "Problems with mental health services have in the past too often been related to poor joint working between health and social care.
"The opening of North End House is a good opportunity to demonstrate the closer working that now exists between health and social services in County Durham and Darlington.
"North End House is also an important step in providing better facilities for mental health services."
The centre's opening follows that of the Bowes Lyon unit for older people with mental health problems last month. There are plans for a centre to provide services for older people in the Wear Valley and Sedgefield.
