For the first time in the history of the league a father and son from one team were drawn against a father and son from their opponents.
The Evans pair from Shotton Palms saw off the visiting Rooneys' from Witton Gilbert to set up a maximum victory. Jimmy Evans junior had a comfortable win over John Rooney junior, but in the fathers encounter Jimmy Evans senior needed the final black to overcome John Rooney senior by one point. The other points for Shotton came from Dave swindle, Paul Hickman and Barry Hall.
In the top of the table clash, Old Shildon ended the unbeaten run of the visiting Fishburn A with an odd point success. The highlight of the victory was the 91 break from the Old Shildon's surprise new signing, Andrew Aisbitt. They took further points from Michael Pratt with 47 and 38 breaks and Billy Goggins with a 34 break. The Fishburn points came from Brian Quest and Wayne Oliver. This result leaves Fishburn A one point ahead of Old Shildon, who hold a one point advantage over Wheatley Hill A and two points over Brandon.
Wheatley Hill A visited Ferryhill and only dropped one point when Neil Spender won for the home side. The Hill's points came from Dean Bryden, Dave Walker, Alan Hall and Ronnie Peacock.
Brandon won the decider to beat their hosts at Spennymoor A by the odd point. Karl Welsh put the Moors ahead but then Graeme Jackson and Colin Goodrick moved the visitors in front. Paul Biddle levelled the match only to see Brandon go to victory when Kevin Sample beat John Wilson.
Newton Aycliffe slipped to the bottom of the First Division after going down by the odd point at Willington. The home side raced into a winning lead with frames from Stan Bennett, Arthur Goldsborough and Jeremy Martin.
Crook Belle Vue failed to strengthen their top spot in the Second Division when they went down in the decider at Sherburn Village. Scott Mallaburn put the home side ahead only to see Derek Potts and Ken Rider move Crook ahead. John Bower levelled the match and then Michael Crisp ensured the Sherburn victory when he beat John Warriner in the decider.
Newhouse moved into second place in the Second Division after whitewashing the visiting Durham City in a very close match. Ian Dinsdale took the first frame in convincing fashion with a 28 break on his first visit, followed by a 22 break but after that the points were won on the pink or the black. The point scorers were William Bouchen, Jimmy Hassen, Steve Mountain and John Maddox.
Langley Park moved up to third place just two points behind Newhouse after they only dropped one point to the visiting Meadowfield, who had Stephen Hughes as their only winner with a 32 break. The Park had wins from Paul Morgan, Kevin Keers, Raymond Coates and Stephen Coates.
Spennymoor B only dropped one point on their visit to Wheatley Hill B, who had Dave Blyth as their only winner. The Moors had wins from Alan Rowell, Kevin Riley, Phil Wilson and Alan Clark, but both Steve Cave and Jock Frost of the Hill were unfortunate when they lost on the black
Ivan Pye scored the only point for Stanley Central when they visited Fishburn B. The home side's points came from Dave Wilson, Alan Wilson, Keith Binks and Winston Hodgson.
A very strong Wingate team moved four points clear at the top of the Third Division when they only dropped one point to the visiting Tow Law. John Bourne, John Mason, Geoff Howe and Paul Harrison, on his debut, took the first four points for Wingate with Charlie Donaghy preventing the whitewash in the final frame.
Crowtrees moved up to second place following their whitewash success over the visiting Leeholme A. The home points came from Keith McLauchlan with a 37 break, Sean Johnston, Neil Phillips, Sonny Hann and Peter Laverick.
Sacriston ensured victory on their visit to Leeholme B when they took the first three frames through Gary Barton, Jeff Evans and Willy Nixon. Then home side recovered to take points through Ray Gill and Brian Harrison.

Ithe First Round of the Knock Out Cup the second Division found their generous starts a decisive factor as the top four teams in the First Division went out. Harrowgate Hill, who lead the First Division, were beaten by the Second Division second placed team, Darlington Snooker Club C.
Hopetown, who occupy second place in the First Division went down to Bishop Auckland Cricket Club, who are third in the Second Division, whilst Darlington Snooker Club A, who share the second spot, went down to the next to bottom Second Division team from Bishop Auckland Gents A. The fourth placed Darlington Railway Institute from the First Division went down the lower placed Barnard Castle Glaxo.
