WHEN it comes to keeping a sports pitch in good condition, there's not much that Mark Wilson has to learn.
He's just won two regional events in the search for Britain's Groundsman of the Year - and in September will do battle for the national title at Windsor, Berkshire.
Mr Wilson is the groundsman at the Killinghall Moor football pitches in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, which opened two years ago at a cost of almost £1m
"This is just exceptional," said the council's cabinet member for leisure and amenity services, Pat Marsh.
"Mark came first in the regional heats for the West Riding and then for the North region. He was nominated for entry into the awards by referees who have attended matches at his ground."
The awards are organised by the Institute of Groundsmanship. One of the judges said of Killinghall Moor: "These facilities are a credit to the authority. Keep up the good work."
