Wolsingham Club moved to the top of Section A with a good win over Wolsingham Sixth Form in the competition sponsored by Weardale Steel.
The Club batted first and lost an early wicket but they quickly recovered with Nigel Percival making 19, Alan Crinnion 23 and Stephen Peart 22 to ensure a good total from their twenty overs. The Sixth Form fought back with three quick wickets but a determined late 19 from Reggie Savoury took the Club to 124.
The Sixth Form response suffered from a slow scoring start, followed by the loss of two quick wickets. However solid performances from D Evans with 25 and R Roddam with 20 lifted their hopes. The Club retaliated with some tight bowling and enthusiastic fielding to close out the Sixth Form innings at 87 with an over to spare.
Wolsingham Mill Race moved into second place in Section A behind Wolsingham Club after a comprehensive victory over Sunniside Comedian. The Race batted first and had most of their players in double figures with openers, R. Hanlon and R. Cramb making 20 each. G. Wilks added 21 before the Comedian had their best spell with three quick wickets. However some determined late batting pushed the Mill Race to 146 when the overs ran out.
The Comedian made a good start in their reply and went to 21 before losing their first wicket. However after J. Burke was bowled on 15 the rest of the batting showed their lack of practice and they were dismissed for 38.
The matches in Section B featuring Eastgate Cross Keys against Stanhope All Stars and Wolsingham Teachers against Wolsingham All Stars were both postponed.
* In order to get the competition back on a sound financial footing a Prize Draw is being organised with a cricket bat signed by the Durham County players, the first ever ten inch Dales fruit cake donated by Jenkins and Hustwith, who have just been invited to sell their quality cakes in Selfridges, a £20 petrol voucher donated by Philip Wilks, a bottle of brandy donated by Jeff Ridley of Sunniside Comedian and a bottle of rum make up the prizes, whilst Lintons Printers of Crook have printed the tickets at cost price. Tickets are available from all players.

Tuesday: Weardale Steel v Stanhope All Stars.
Wednesday: Wolsingham Sixth Form v Wolsingham Mill Race.
