THE growing reputation of an open-air music festival has been given another boost with news that Marillion are the headline band at this year's event.
Richmond Live was extended over two nights for the first time last year, attracting the chart band, Cosmic Rough Riders, and former Mike and the Mechanics man Paul Carrack.
Organisers say they are thrilled to have persuaded Marillion to play at The Batts on Saturday, August 3.
Festival spokesman Mike Jinks said: "We understand it is to be their only live gig in the UK this year.
"We can only hope this reflects the growing standing of Richmond Live. Last year set records but it seems we are set for an even bigger and better weekend this time,'' he said.
The programme begins on Friday, August 2, with DJs keeping the crowds entertained between live performances by the best the Richmond area has to offer.
The final of this year's Battle of the Bands will be between Noctober, No Fouling, Swompmonkees and Take the Fifth.
The winners earn the right to share the stage with Marillion on the Saturday as well as the opportunity to record their best work at a local studio.
