A NATIONAL Lottery grant of £5,000 has been awarded to a scheme designed to encourage people in County Durham to take up tennis.
Shotley and Benfieldside Tennis Club and Derwentside Leisure Services are using some of the money to provide tennis coaching sessions in Annfield Plain Park on Thursdays from 5pm to 8pm.
Derwentside Leisure Services is also trying to promote its basketball courts in Lanchester, South Moor, Dipton and Stanley.
The tennis courses are for all ages and cost £1 per session with equipment provided free.
The grant was awarded by lottery agents Awards for All.
