A COUNCIL has been honoured for its environmental work.
The honours were among those presented at the 13th annual County Durham Environment Awards in County Hall, Durham.
Wear Valley District Council was presented with a built environment award for its Wolsingham building repair and environmental enhancement scheme.
The council has helped 27 projects to restore historic buildings in the Weardale village.
There was a commendation for improvements made to Crook Market Place, encouraged through a system of grants.
The district council schemes are supported by Durham County Council, English Heritage and One NorthEast.
Other Wear Valley organisations that scooped awards included a golden jubilee garden at St John's Chapel; improvements to the grounds at Wolsingham Nursery School; Teesdale and Weardale Farmers' Market; renovation work at Eastgate Village Hall; and the regeneration of Rosedale and Victoria Allotments Association at Willington.
