THE Royal Canadian Airforce marks its 60th anniversary today with a memorial service at a North-East hotel.
The event, which began yesterday, will reunite veterans who were based at Middleton St George, near Darlington, during the Second World War.
The old comrades were at the RAF base - now Teesside International Airport - in the 1940s and will take a tour of the airport to see the changes there.
John Waiting, business services manager at the airport, said: "They have a reunion every year, but this one is very special, and we will be honoured to welcome them."
One of the organisers, 73-year-old Andy Bullement, who worked as a telecommunications engineer at the airport, said that at least 80 people were expected to meet at the Middleton St George Hotel for the celebrations.
He said: "We are looking forward very much to the event, which is, of course, very special because it is the 60th anniversary."
