KEVIN Curran, regional secretary of the GMB union has stood down from the board of One NorthEast, due to the demands of his union work.
Mr Curran has been a board member since the organisation was set up in 1999.
Mr Curran cited the demands of work with the GMB as his reason for leaving.
He said: "I have always been impressed by the unity of purpose demonstrated by the board. The blend of experience and expertise benefits the work of One NorthEast in all its fields of endeavour.
"It has been a difficult and challenging period, yet also most exciting and rewarding.
"I am confident that the agency will continue to meet the immediate and long-term challenges of the region and I will be pleased to play a supporting role in the future."
Dr John Bridge, chairman of One NorthEast, said: "I'd like to thank Kevin personally, and on behalf of the agency for all he has achieved at One NorthEast.
"He has been a very active member of the board and has chaired the agency's education and skills committee with great authority and energy. I wish him every success for the future."
