POLICE have renewed their appeal for the drivers and occupants of two cars, who may have witnessed a fatal car smash in which a teenager died, to come forward.
A Peugeot 309 collided with a marked police BMW patrol car on the A689 Coundon bypass, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, at about 10.30pm on Monday.
Karl Sutcliffe, 19, formerly of Walker Drive, Woodhouse Close Estate, Bishop Auckland, who was driving the Peugeot, died at the scene.
The two cars, a grey Renault Clio and a white Vauxhall Nova, were seen travelling towards Bishop Auckland moments earlier.
Police carrying out an investigation into the incident, which is being overseen by the Police Complaints Authority, have urged the occupants to come forward.
Two officers in the patrol vehicle were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for leg injuries and shock.
Detective Chief Inspector Bruce Turnbull, who is leading the inquiry, asks anyone with information to call Bishop Auckland police station on (01388) 603566.
