A NORTH-EAST soldier is looking forward to a royal date after being invited to the Queen's Garden Party.
Steven Jobburns, 20, of Consett, County Durham, is in the Royal Signal Corps, based in Wiltshire. He joined up after he left Blackfyne School, Consett, at 16.
His mother, Sheila, said: "He recently came back from an assignment taking Second World War veterans to war graves in France, and rang to say he had been put forward by his sergeant for the garden party.
"His was one of six names put forward to represent his camp and he was chosen. He is really looking forward to it.''
