PLANS for a private old people's home in a former pit village seem likely to win approval today.
Chester-le-Street District Council's planning and licensing committee will be urged to grant permission for Gainford Care's scheme at Perkinsville, near Pelton.
The company plans to build a 55-bed residential care home on land at St Benet's Hall, Institute Terrace East.
The proposals also include a 15-bay car park next to the village's Methodist Church, and an amenity area for home residents.
The company won permission last November to build ten houses on the site, but has abandoned that scheme.
A report to councillors says that there have been no responses to the planning application from people living in the area.
The report says that the scheme fits in with local planning policies, and it recommends that conditions be imposed including tree planting and landscaping.
It also limits construction work to 8am to 6pm on weekdays, 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with none taking place on Sundays and public holidays.
