PUPILS were kept at home yesterday after their school was vandalised during the half-term holiday.
Children at Woodham Burn Junior School, in Newton Aycliffe, had an extended holiday when it was discovered that the roof of the school had been damaged and heavy rain had poured into classrooms.
A spokesman for Durham County Council said skylights in several classrooms had been vandalised and windows were smashed.
He said: "There was broken glass everywhere on the floors and because of the rain, there was a lot of weather damage to the furnishings as well as to the school computers."
The pupils were expected to back at their desks today.
