A NEW initiative aims to boost the health of people in Hartlepool by promoting the benefits of walking.
The project is being led by Gerry Rodgers, Hartlepool Borough Council's newly-appointed health and sports officer.
His role is to work with various groups of people to improve their general health by developing walking programmes.
The groups he is targeting include people on cardiac rehabilitation programmes, people on GP referral schemes, members of ethnic minorities and people with disabilities, as well as the local population at large.
Mr Rodgers is also eager to recruit a number of volunteer walk leaders and assistants to enable the number of walks taking place to be expanded.
The initiative will be launched on Wednesday, July 17, with a walk from Summerhill to Elwick.
For further information about the event, or to become a volunteer, contact Mr Rodgers on (01429) 284104.
