THE licence to run Darlington's local radio station is out to tender.
Next week, the Radio Authority will ask to hear from companies interested in applying for the town's local radio licence on the FM waveband.
Listeners are being asked to give their views on what the local station provides and what changes in the service they would like.
The licence, held by Alpha Radio 103.2, will expire next year.
People interested in taking over the licence have until July 23 to express an interest and to pay a non-refundable application fee of £1,500 and a returnable deposit of £20,000 to support their bids.
If Alpha Radio is the only company to reapply for the licence, a fast-track procedure will begin to allow it to continue broadcasting.
The local station serves about 110,000 people in Darlington aged 15 and over.
Anyone with views on Alpha Radio or the future of the radio station can write to: Holbrook House, 14 Great Queen Street, London, WC2B 5DG.
