TREASURE hunters are in for a treat when a charity shop holds an antiques and bric-a-brac day.

Help The Aged, in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, is holding the collectors' corner event next Thursday.

Over the past few months, staff and volunteers have set aside items for the event, including china, ornaments, tableware and books.

Shop manager Jennifer Salt said: "We are constantly amazed at the quality and variety of donations that our Help the Aged shops receive, and with this promotion we are making sure that our rare and interesting items are not going to waste."

Funds raised by the charity event will be used to build a brighter future for older people, combat poverty, reduce isolation, defeat ageism and promote quality in care.

Current projects include SeniorLink, which provides community alarm telephones, SeniorMobility, which provides specially adapted minibuses and SeniorLine 0808 8006565, a free welfare rights advice service.
