TOURISTS visiting television's Heartbeat country this weekend can expect to be waited on by a real life police officer.
Drug squad member Detective Constable Nick Edgar will be swapping jobs to serve cuppas, scones and cakes in his own tea room.
Nick is willing to be a waiter for the day - in his own time - to raise as much money as he can for charities and a local museum.
He is turning part of the old village school at Grosmont on the North York Moors into a temporary tea room, having been inspired by the plight of two friends who were diagnosed with cancer.
The officer has pledged to raise £1,000 each for the Teesside Hospice, Macmillan Nurses, which also helps cancer patients, and the Tom Leonard Mining Museum in Skinningrove, east Cleveland.
Nick, a member of Cleveland Police, said yesterday: "This should be a fun and informative weekend, which will hopefully raise lots of money for these worthwhile causes.
"I hope lots of people will come along and have a great day out.''
His chosen charities will have information displays in the grounds of the old school on Saturday and Sunday and there is an interactive science exhibition at the school itself.
The effort is timed to coincide with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Thomas Weekend.
