SIX new workshops have been given the go-ahead in Reeth, which national park chiefs hope will reinforce the community's reputation as a centre for rural crafts.
Almost 30 people signed a petition objecting to the proposals submitted by Richmondshire District Council.
However, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's planning committee was told the protests may have been inspired by a recent controversy over another large building already under construction.
Cabinet-maker Philip Bastow was given permission to extend his workshop when no objections were raised during the formal consultation procedure.
It was only when building work began that neighbours began to complain but by then, it was too late.
The six additional workshops approved will be built in three blocks to match the existing workshops on Silver Street
