Eastern Trumpeter, who gave very definite signs of returning to form at Ripon at the weekend, is fancied to go well in the Alan Black & Co - the People for Property Handicap over five furlongs at York this afternoon.
Milton Bradley's sprinter has slipped to a very fair mark and ran his best race of the season to date when third to David Chapman's pair, Soaked and Paddywack on that occasion.
That run should have put him spot on for this assignment and he must have fair claims from a handicapping point of view as he's 3lb lower in the weights than when successful in this race last year.
Bradley's sprinters have been in good form of late and any further rain at the Yorkshire venue will be very much in his favour.
Grey Cossack also loves to get his toe in and he's taken to beat Bradley's Brevity in the Bishopthorpe Rated Showcase Handicap over six furlongs.
David Barker's five-year-old looks an improved performer this term after wins at Newcastle and at Pontefract and he had little chance from his draw on ground faster than ideal at Newmarket last time.
This ground will be much more to his liking and he ran a blinder over course and distance last October when second to the in-form Pipadash.
Richard Fahey's horses are in unstoppable form at present and his Chief Monarch takes the eye in the Batleys Charity Raceday Claimer over a mile and a quarter.
Although he missed the whole of last year he showed all the ability was still there when a close third to Flight Sequence in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar recently.
He deserves extra credit as he didn't get the run of the race and he would have gone very close with a clear run. He can make amends in this company.
At Sandown John Quinn's Morpheous looks a very interesting runner in the SBJ Group Classified Stakes over seven furlongs.
The son of Halling more than confirmed the promise of his debut Newmarket run when winning in some style at Beverley and that form has already been franked by the placed horses.
Quinn's Carlton will love the conditions and he's sure to go well in the Jolly Good Days Out Claimer over five furlongs.
At Wolverhampton Nigel Tinkler's Cryfield takes the eye in the seven furlong amateur riders handicap.
The son of Efisio, while yet to run at this course, handles the fibresand at Southwell well enough and is bred to be effective here. He goes very well for today's rider, Carol Williams and he'll get a good lead from confirmed front-runner Deeper In Debt.
l Succinct maintained her 100 per cent record with a battling success over Lady's Secret for the Listed Ballymacoll Stud Stakes at Newbury yesterday. writes DAVID PRIOR.
Henry Cecil's filly showed plenty of grit to follow up her debut victory at Salisbury as she wore down the runner-up in the dying strides for a neck verdict in the hands of Richard Quinn.
The jockey was pleased with the performance, saying: ''She tries very hard and I just kept pushing away out there in the testing ground and she kept responding.''
Cecil was absent but his assistant Harry Dunlop said: ''She's achieved what's needed in getting some black type as this was a listed event and it's always nice to win those.
''It's nice to have a winner like this a few days before Royal Ascot and we are likely to have a select team of eight at the meeting.
''Hopefully our greatest hopes there are likely to be High Pitched in the Hardwicke Stakes and Sea Star in the Royal Hunt Cup."
Richard Hannon's two-year-olds are carrying all before them at present and the trainer kept the ball rolling with a double with Al Turf and Mister Links
