Redcar and District League

Iweek 17 of Division Two, The Clarey B were at home to the Cleveland C. N Bottomley put them 1-0 up with C Evans making it 1-1. Clarey then went on a roll with J Whyman, M Burdon, W McCarthy and M Cockfield making it 5-1. The Clarey then won two out of three doubles for an excellent 7-2 win.

The Lobster were at home to Barns B in a close game. The singles were shared 3-3 with L Graydon making an excellent seven-ball finish in the last singles for the Lobster. Barns then won two out of three doubles for a 5-4 win.

Top team NMSC were away to third placed Hydro A. G Brayfield put NMSC 1-0 up before G Conlin and A Reed made it 2-1 to the Hydro. G Hearfield and A Day made it 3-2 to NMSC but then G Davies made it all-square in the singles. NMSC won all three doubles to win the match 6-3.

In Division One Kingfisher A were at home to the Starting Gate and went 5-0 up through M Smallwood, K Manders, S Buckton, K Whyman and A Moore Jnr. P Sisson pulled one back for the Gate but Kingey won two out of three doubles for a 7-2 win.

Sam Smiths Cup

Cleveland A were at home to the Rugby Club. S Bulman put the Cleveland 1-0 up. G Thurlow and J Hurley then put the Rugby Club 2-1 up. The Cleveland then went on a roll with I McKenna, M Bass and D Milburn making it 4-1. They then won the first doubles to take them through to the next round.

Middlesbrough and District League

The Royal George have ended the Captain Cook 8s unbeaten run of 14 matches in Division One. The Cook went 1-0 up from Michael Gray, Alan Badger put the George level at 1-1 then Lee Wray who is unbeaten in his first six matches put the George back level, Alan Stevenson played well to defeat Darren Jones for 3-2. In frame six Marl Fisher should have seized the win for the Cook but hit a careless shot on his last yellow which was over the pocket to let in Mark Ditton who was left an easy black for 3-3. In the last frame two old teammates Steve Woodier and Dave Kilburn fought it out for the match with Dave getting the first clear chance to win the frame and cleared his last five reds and held his nerve to hit an excellent pot on the black to win the match 4-3.

Reigning champions Tables are showing no signs of slipping up after they whitewashed Captain Cook's 7-0 with wins from Stuart Richards, who is still unbeaten, Chris Gladwin, Kevin Pigott, Dave Robinson, Shaun Richardson, Simon Holmes and Mick Shaw.

Tables have now just dropped four points in six matches.

Bishop Auckland and District League

Henknowle Manor House and Tow Law Station pulled off good victories against teams aiming for the Championship. The Manor beat their hosts at Bishop Auckland Snooker Club B, whilst the Station beat the visiting Spennymoor Ashtree.

The Snooker Club B had two singles points from Michael Hoggart and one each from Chris Peacock and Paul Willey, whilst the Manor went ahead with two points each for John Collinson and Ronnie Wright whilst Steve Webb and Peter Merner added one each. The home side took the doubles through Chris Peacock and Paul Willey but then Steve Webb clinched the Manor's victory by beating Michael Hoggart in both captain's games.

Tow Law Station had two singles points each from David Craggs, Lee Cullinan and Tommy Sloan whilst Shaun Umpelby and Steven Maughan added one each. The Ashtree replied with one point each for Paul Biddle and Steve Jones. The Station took the doubles through Malcolm Umpelby with Lee Cullinan before David Craggs and Paul Biddle shared the captain's point.

Crook Olde Horse Shoe's lead at the top was cut to two points with Crook Coach and Horse moving into second place, eleven points ahead of Bishop Auckland King's Head.

Crook League

Crook Royal Sun A pulled off a great win over the visiting second placed Crook Travellers Rest B, a result which allowed Crook Olde Horse Shoe A to move 13 points clear at the top of the First Division, whilst Crook Coach and Horses A moved just three points behind the Travellers.

The Royal Sun A had two points from Ronnie Hope with Julian Bowey, John Howcroft, Graham Johnson, Kevin Clark, with a clean up from the break and Gary Butterfield. The Travellers had singles points from Neil Campbell, Peter Coates, Michael Burke, Aaron Cowan and Doug Bowey only to see the home side clinch a good victory when Kevin Clark with Julian Bowey and Ronnie Hope with Graham Johnson took both doubles.

In the Second Division Crook Golden Fleece finished strongly to force a draw against the visiting Crook White Swan. The Fleece had two points from Richard Dobson and Paul Futter with Wayne Tindale adding one, whilst the Swan had two points from Lee Airey with Chris Pounder, Ray Hogarth, Michael Sanderson and David Stewart adding one each. The doubles were shared with Wayne Tindale and Richard Dobson scoring for the Fleece and Lee Airey and Michael Sanderson replying. In the final singles the Fleece's Wayne Tindale beat Simon Adamson to force the draw.

Willington Market are eight points ahead at the top of the Second Division with Crook Jelly's Bar A seven ahead of the third placed pair from Crook Queen's Head A and Crook White Swan.

Tow Law League

Colin Armstrong, a legend in the league for his determination when against the odds, pulled out all the stops to edge his Tow Law North Point team through to an odd point victory at Tow Law Football Club. The footballers had singles wins from Les Hind, Keith Muse and Charlie Donaghy with Alan Henderson replying. Armstrong then came back from a dicey position to beat Arthur Henderson and the Point levelled when Paul Graham accepted a gift. The home side took the first doubles but again Armstrong lifted his team by accepting the help of his colleague Alan Henderson to square the match with Dave Morton and Paul Graham clinching victory when they beat Terry Ginty and Jim Day in the deciding doubles.

Tow Law Rose and Crown went down to their first defeat when the visiting Tow Law New Market B won by three points. Chris Bowes and Steven Todd were the only singles winners for the home side with Shaun Umpelby, I an Turner, John Beveridge and David Spencer winning for the Market. The only other point for the home side came when Adam Orton and Chris Bowes won a doubles.

Despite losing this match the Rose and Crown still lead the table by three points from Tow Law North Point, who are one ahead of Tow Law Dan's Castle A.

Bishop Auckland Area League

Things went downhill for Bishop Auckland Grand after Gary McGaskill won the opening singles game for them when they visited the Spennymoor Wheatsheaf this week. After that they were unable to take another point in the singles as the home side's Andy Mole, Kelvin Anderson, Steven Horner and Gary Brown won the remaining games. Steven Horner and Garry Brown went on to take the first doubles game for the home side but Lee Ellison and Dave Baglin took the second doubles for the Grand, who also won the captains where Sean Reynolds made the final score 5-3.

Leaders, Bishop Auckland King's Head visited Spennymoor Penny Gill and got off to a fine start when Malcolm Parry, Andrew Tuesday and David Jacomb won the first three singles games. Chris Blenkin took the fourth singles game for the home side before Peter Mernor took the fifth to make it 4-1.

During three of the lost singles games the Penny Gill missed chances to pot the black and let their opponents in to win the point. In the doubles Andrew Tuesday and David Jacomb won the first game for the visitors with Terry Mould and Chris Blenkin taking the second for the home side. Peter Mernor won the captains for the Kings to make the final score 6-2.

Bishop Auckland Aclet visited Bishop Auckland Derby this week and, after Malcolm Cooper won them the first game, the visitors didn't take another point. Kevin Singleton, Stuart Milne, Gary Dixon and Andrew Delve took the other singles games. Kevin Singleton and Steve Lowther won the first doubles and Stuart Milne and Jeff Dixon the second before Michael Richardson wrapped up the points when he won the captains game.

Spennymoor League

Spennymoor Voltigeur had to rely on a win in the captain's game to clinch a two points victory on their trip to Spennymoor Railway. The Railway had singles wins from Ronnie Irvin and Ian Spowart whilst the Voltigeur moved ahead with wins from Andy Mole, Kevin Santi and Ken Anderson. The doubles were shared when Tony Greener and Michael Mole won for the Railway and Ken Anderson and Trevor Dixon replied. Colin Hill of the Voltigeur clinched the visitor's victory when he beat Ian Spowart in the captain's game.

Spennymoor Black Horse lead the table by four points from Spennymoor Quinns Inn, who have a match in hand and are eleven points ahead of the third placed Spennymoor Victoria.
