CARNIVAL TIME: Street entertainers will lead a procession of floats from Front Street, at 10am, on Saturday, to start the Sacriston Carnival at Fyndoune Community College. The event runs until 4pm.
JUBILEE MASS: St Joseph's RC Church, Birtley, will hold a Jubilee Mass to celebrate Father Tony Duffy's 40 years as a priest, at 7pm, on Monday, followed by a parish social evening and presentation in the parish centre.
MASSAGE COURSE: Chester-le-Street Community Centre, Newcastle Bank, is beginning a five-week aromatherapy and massage course from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, from Monday. Further information is available on 0191-388 4752.

INTO THE HEAT: Dave Buch-anan, who formerly worked at University Hospital, in Dur-ham, has taken over as chef at the Barley Mow Inn.
DONOR SESSION: A blood donor session will be held from 2.30pm to 7pm, on Thursday, at Birtley Masonic Hall.
NEW BOSS: Catherine Kerrs, who formerly run the Highwayman, West Pelton, will be the new landlady of the Wheatsheaf, Barley Mow, from Thursday.
CUP VICTORY: Lord Lawson of Beamish Comprehensive School under-16s football team won the Gateshead School League Cup, also known as the Simpson, on penalties.
BOWING OUT: Mr and Mrs B Hunter, who have run Vigo news for a number of years have retired. The new newsagents are Mr and Mrs McDonald.
QUIZ TIME: The Red Lion, Plawsworth, has started a Thursday night quiz, which starts at 9pm.
CRICKET RECORD: Richie Omar, of Sacriston, who plays for Beamish Cricket Club, established a new league cup record when he scored a 171 runs against Ryton.
