Stockton Schools
Billingham Campus School enjoyed a successful Stockton Schools Athletics championships which were staged at Gateshead International Stadium because of insufficient seating and event restrictions at Clairville Stadium.
The school finished in the top three in 11 of the 12 categories and won six of the sections including the prestigious Relays Cup and overall Championship. This is all the more remarkable because although missing Year 11 students through exams like the other schools, several key York athletes were missing on work experience programmes.
In the intermediate girls section Stephanie Bates clocked a new record time of 44.29 over 300m in which Allison Curbishley competed before going on to win the event at national level.
The first two athletes in the three age groups will represent Stockton at the Cleveland Schools Championship later in the month.
