Volunteers in the spotlight: Bishop Auckland Discovery Centre is hosting an exhibition in association with 2D Volunteers Bureau, to increase awareness of volunteering.
Various volunteer organisations are displaying information about activities that volunteers can take part in. The exhibition opened yesterday and will close on Saturday, June 22. Opening hours are Thursday to Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. Admission is free.
TRIMS TAKEN: Four silver wheel trims were stolen from a blue Nissan Micra in Victoria Embankment, Darlington, between 7.30pm and 8.25pm on Wednesday.
COMMUNITY GRANT: The Cockerton Residents' Community Association, in Darlington, has been received a £3,000 grant from Awards for All to improve facilities in Cockerton community hall. It is hoped the improvements will encourage more groups to use the hall.
PLANTS STOLEN: A conifer tree and terracotta plant pot were stolen from a garden in Staindrop Road, Darlington, between 7pm on Wednesday and 6.45am yesterday.
HOUSING AGM: The annual meeting of the Darlington Housing Association will be held on Tuesday, June 25, at 7pm. The meeting will take place at 72a St Paul's Place, in Darlington.
SUMMER FETE: St Andrew's Church, Sadberge, is holding its summer fete at the Village Hall on Saturday, June 29, at 2.30pm.
WILDLIFE GROUP: The Sedgefield Wildlife Group will visit Teesmouth National Nature Reserve for a guided walk and talk by Mike Leaky, of English Nature, next Thursday. Meet in the car park at Sedgefield Parish Hall, at 6.45pm, to arrange lifts, or in the car park adjacent to the Teesmouth Field Centre, off B1277. Members are advised to take binoculars.
CRAFT WORKSHOPS: Art and craft group Krafty Kids, for eight to 12-year-olds, is starting a four-week project based on trees. The first session, to create artwork to decorate Bishop Auckland junior library, is on tomorrow, from 10am to noon. tea dance: A tea dance will be held at the Eden Theatre, in Bishop Auckland Town Hall, on Tuesday, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
STORY COMPETITION: The presentation of prizes in the Sid Chaplain Short Story Competition will take place at Shildon Civic Hall next Wednesday, at 7pm.
