Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-18s
Durham City had just two runs to spare defeating Whitburn following a high scoring game. Batting first City ended on 131 for five which included 47 by Joel Hughes, a regular in the first team. Tom Stonock added 33 and Duncan 26 not out while for Whitburn Andy Turns had figures of three for 25 in six overs and Adam Lock two for 48 from his six overs spell.
Replying Whitburn got to within three runs of a winning margin when they finished on 129 for five. Paul Marshall with 39 and Ian Elliott (37) almost won the game for Whitburn but Durham City held on as Edwards captured three wickets for 21 runs.
David Arrowsmith with four for 23 from six overs and Johnny Wightman, whose six overs produced figures of two for 19, restricted Horden to 89 for eight, a total which South Shields overtook with seven wickets in tact. Wightman was also in good form with the bat ending unbeaten on 35 and when David Coulson contributed 29 not out Shields celebrated victory with five balls remaining.
Scott Robinson was in good form with bat and ball when Burnmoor defeated Felling by five wickets. When the visitors batted first they finished on 60 for eight as Robinson took half the wickets and ended with the creditable figures of four for eight. He then hit an unbeaten 26 steering Burnmoor to a five wickets victory.
Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League Under-15s
Greenside secured an eight wickets victory when they hosted Ryton who were restricted to 67 for six from their 20 overs as Mark Johnson, John Marshall and Rob Bell all claimed a couple of wickets. Replying Greenside won comfortably as Anthony Scott finished unbeaten on 29 with one six and three boundaries and James Grant also carried his bat for 25. Lee Stoneman was again in form with the ball for Burnopfield in his side's eight wickets victory against Whickham. He claimed eight wickets for three runs in five overs as Whickham totalled 63 for five, a target which Burnopfield met losing two wicket as Marcus Peart top scored with 23 hitting one six and one boundary.
Andrew Smith struck six fours in an undefeated 44 out of the Lintz total of 62 for six. Chris Wallace returned three for 28 from his five overs and earlier Swalwell posted 80 for five to win by 18 runs. Long with three for 19 from five overs was the pick of the Lintz attack.
A sound innings of 33 by Adam Phillips enabled Annfield Plain to score 87 for two in their home game with Kibblesworth who went on to win losing a couple of wickets.
Lanchester overtook the Chopwell total of 42 for nine without conceding a wicket. Kevin Dixon took three wickets for two runs from five overs and Michael Quinn captured three wickets for four runs from his two-over spell when Chopwell were reduced to 42 for nine.Wilson returned the excellent figures of five for 19 in five overs when Crookhall reached 79 for six which included 48 by Daniel Stewart who recorded two sixes and five fours. Sacriston won by eight wickets when Hockaday carried his bat for 33.
Schools Cricket
Durham managed 94 for four when they replied to Yorkshire's total of 110 for 11 when the schools met at Guiseley, near Bradford, at U11 level.
Batting first Yorkshire U11s made 110 for seven in 39.5 overs mainly as a result of an unbeaten 27 from Sharpe and 26 by Baker.
Graeme Brinton took two for 19 in six overs and Michael Turns had figures of two for 23 from his ten overs spell.
When Durham U11s replied they ended with 94 for four which included 36 not out by Tom Forster, who found the boundary on six occasions. Liam Coates also batted well and he recorded one six and seven fours in 42 while for Yorkshire Under-11s Christian captured three wickets for nine runs in eight overs, half of which were maidens.
Roseberry Group North East Durham League
Newton Aycliffe maintained their interest in the race for the championship when they defeated Coundon by six runs.
The home side's innings was reduced to 40 overs, but following a late start their batsmen made merry and totalled 161 for six from 40 overs.
Karl Wheeler opened the innings and hit six boundaries in 36 and later Peter Roberts carried his bat for 45 recording a couple of sixes and six fours.
Murray and Askew both claimed a couple of wickets in the Coundon attack.
When they replied Coundon were given a good send off by opener Lee Bell and Pearath who put on 63 runs in 11 overs.
Bell top scored with 35 including a couple of boundaries and Pearath was 34 when he became another victim of Alan Mitchie who finished with three for 63 in 17 overs. Left arm spinner Steve Davison returned four for 44 from 14 overs and Coundon were all out for 155 with four balls of their innings remaining.
Wearmouth posted 140 for nine before losing by three wickets visiting Washington. Blench top scored with 38 and there were useful contributions of 30 by Davison and 24 not out from Bowmaker as the visitors ended on 140 for nine. Peter Hebron took three for 43, Alan Kitchen two for 28 and Plender two for 42 for Washington.
In response the home side edged towards victory finishing with 142 for seven which included 41 not out by Mitchell. Bewick (24) and John Tither (20) gave valuable support while for Wearmouth Murphy returned four for 67 and Peter Stronach three for 66.
Medomsley were also involved in a close result before seeing off the challenge from Coxhoe by just ten runs.
When they made first use of the wicket Medomsley were bowled out for 111 and they were indebted to a late partnership between Vickers (28) and Shaw who carried his bat for 18. Jackson with three for 13 and Maddison, Perone and Adset all took two wickets for Coxhoe.
When they went into bat Coxhoe lost two of their first three batsmen without scoring, but Southern put them in with a chance when he scored 39 before becoming a victim of Barnes.
Despite the assistance of 23 extras, Coxhoe were all out for 101 as Barnes finished with the excellent figures of five for 31 and Dixon and Hughes took a couple of wickets each.
In division two Simonside enjoyed a ten wickets win at home to Kibblesworth. The visitors were all out in 39.3 overs for only 116 with Paul Haynes returning six for 35 in 17 overs five of which were maidens. Paul Thompson took two for 39 in 12 overs and Chris Ross two for 17 from 8.3 overs.
When they went into bat Simonside found run making easy and achieved the target without losing a wicket in 20.5 over. Mark Thompson hit nine fours in an unbeaten 69 and Paul Thompson had three boundaries in 38.
Plawsworth won by nine wickets at Whiteleas who were back in the pavilion after 20 overs with just 46 runs on the board. Andrew Robinson bowled an excellent end for Plawsworth taking six wickets for 28 runs and Mel Chivers assisted with three for 18.
Responding Plawsworth lost an early wicket but were never in danger as Stewart Whitfield carried his bat for 30 which included three boundaries and Jamie Brooks who finished unbeaten on 11.
Kelloe defeated Hunwick by 98 runs when they bowled out the visitors for 32. Pratt with five for 15 was the chief wicket keeper but Bowary, Hughes and Turnbull were also among the wickets.
Batting first Kelloe posted 130 for nine which included 52 by Finney. Nevison with three for 35 was in good form with the ball for Hunwick and Morris took two for 26 with the other two wickets being shared by Johnson and Pratt.
Washington were dismissed for 56 visiting East Rainton for whom Freddie Long claimed four wickets for three runs and Derek Reay three for 19. When they batted first East Rainton ended on 151 all out mainly as a result of the efforts of Bell with 31 and Hall who scored 33. Opener Lawrence added a valuable 21 and Tommy Hannon scored 18 while for Washington Bowes captured six wickets for 58 runs and Fallon returned three for 42.
Tantobie had three wickets in hand when they overtook the Bearpark total of 105 all out which included 45 by opener Smith. Hogarth captured three for four and Brown three for 21 for Tantobie, while Petrie and Cook took a couple of wickets apiece.
Tantobie made a reasonable start, but it was Smith, who ended with 30 not out, who steered his side home despite Lishman taking four for 35 and Willis three 29.
Federation Special Durham Senior League Under-13
Cup final
Chester-le-Street won the cup with a 73 runs victory over Whitburn. Batting first the Cestrians reached 128 for the loss of seven wickets as Anthony McMahon hit four boundaries in an unbeaten 26 and Andrew Summers contributed 19. Michael Turns was again in splendid form for Whitburn and in four overs he returned the excellent figures of four for 20.
The Whitburn batsmen never threatened and the innings closed on 55 which included a top scoring 19 by Paul Marshall who hit one six and two boundaries. Andrew Bowron captured three wickets for 20 runs in four overs and Jack Taylor had figures of two for four from his two overs spell.
