Shildon Primary School is the smallest of three primary schools in the town. It is a caring, family-orientated environment where children, parents and visitors are made to feel welcome.
We are always pleased to meet new parents to discuss the school and show people around.
Our priority is to offer children a wide range of opportunities for learning, including extra curricular activities. At present we have several after-school clubs, which include a drama club, art and craft club, gymnastics club, gardening club and football.
We believe learning should be fun and rewarding for all.
Children are given the opportunity to visit an outdoor education centre when they reach year six and all children take part in educational visits, visits to the cinema and to the theatre throughout the year.
We also place a high priority on the care and safety of the children and currently we are actively involved with the safer routes to school project.
We have recently had a new security fence erected around the school, enhancing the safe environment for the children.
To promote a safe play area, we have installed some play equipment, which is proving to be a success with the children.
We have won a number of awards including ones for our SATs results, for making sure all our children achieve their best, and one for better community involvement.
We place great emphasis on sport and teamwork.
Recently, we reached the county finals in six-a-side and tag rugby and won the Sedgefield borough cricket festival.
This year, our football team has won the Rudd cup, the cup competition for the Bishop Auckland area. This is a great feat for a school our size.
We also enter the county athletics and cross country festivals, encouraging the children to keep active and compete on behalf of the school.
This year has also been very successful for our gymnasts in the county championships, winning four gold medals and numerous silvers for the other participants from the school.
Music is also a very prominent activity. Our school choir enjoy singing at the Shildon carnival, at local carol services and for the elderly in the area. We have a recorder group which plays at assemblies and events with the choir.
We are proud of the achievements of all our children and hope you enjoy reading about our school.
