Darlington and District League
Only two games went ahead in Division A and Heighington, who visited third place Barton, won by three wickets to retain their position at the top of the table.
Batting first Barton were all out for 79 which included 20 by Miller, but generally the batsmen were well contained by Boocock and Howard. Boocock, who opened the Heighington attack, finished with six for 34 and Howard gave good support with three for 21.
When they replied two of the first three Heighington batsmen failed to get off the mark, but Riley stood firm and he made exactly half the total of 82 for seven.
Riley finished on 41 and Olney, who went in at number four, carried his bat for a viable 16. Headon who claimed the first two wickets, conceded 13 runs and Miller captured three wickets for 18 runs. Peter Frankland also had a good day with the ball for Barton picking up two wickets for six runs.
The other game in Division A was at Ingleton who hosted Cockerton. Following a high scoring match Ingleton won by five runs. Their batting hero was Michael Batey who contributed 55 to a total of 160 for five. Stuart Dawson added 24 and Watson 20 while for Cockerton, Farrow took three of the five wickets to fall for 62 runs.
When they replied Cockerton made the best possible start through Tomlin (41) and Lee (31), but following their dismissals wickets fell and only Farrow with 20 offered much resistance. The innings ended on 155 for nine, leaving Ingleton winners by the narrowest of margins. Gammack (3-40) and Wood (3-50) were the bowlers who caused most problems to Cockerton while Batey completed a good game by returning figures of two for 16.
The B Division was also affected by the weather but four games were played. King James were all out for 76 when they hosted Dales who replied with 77 for one in 15.2 overs.
Batting first King James struggled through 31 overs and their top scorer was Davison with 31 while for Dales Stephen Lawson took four wickets for 15 runs in five overs. Most of the Dales runs came from Dave Wallace who hit two sixes and three boundaries in an unbeaten 30.
Haughton lead the table after they saw off the challenge from Lands by 43 runs. When they batted first the home side ended on 192 for four which included 36 by Vipond and a half-century from Wilkinson before Spark carried his bat for 60 in a total of 192 for four. Dalton was the top wicket taker for Lands with three for 78.
When Lands went into bat they were indebted to M Liddle for his 40, but at stumps the innings had produced only 149 for six with Keen taking three of the wickets for 42 runs.
Trimdon CCA defeated Brompton-on-Swale by six wickets and are second from top just two points behind Haughton.
Watchman with four for 28, Coughtrey (2-27) and Carter who also returned two for 27, were the bowlers who restricted Brompton-on-Swale to 83 for eight. Opening batsman Jobling was top scorer with 22.
In response Trimdon CCA ended with 84 for four and Coughtrey, who opened the batting, was still there at the end unbeaten on 15. Horner added 19 and Gofton also made double figures.
Although they made 81 for eight Middleton Tyas won by 21 runs at Middleton-in-Teesdale. Coatesworth took two for 28 and Lee-Shield four for 26 for Middleton, who were dismissed for 60 as Rummell had the excellent figures of six for 24 and Wilkinson captured three wickets for 36 runs.
In Division C Trimdon CCA totalled 112 for five with Hodgson scoring 38 and Pratt 47, but Cliffe went on to win by five wickets when Braithwaite contributed 44.
Wardell (34) and Murray with 47 led Cockerton to 135 for eight with Clarkson taking four for 37 in the Spennithorne and Harmby attack. When Scratchard returned five for 46 and Carroll four for 13 Spennithorne and Harmby were back in the pavilion with only 96 runs on the board.
Swanwick with three for 13 restricted Raby Castle to 71 for seven and Rockliffe went on to win by ten wickets.
The game between Barningham and Aldbrough St John was cancelled because the ground was unfit and the same fate resulted in the Lands and Haughton game also being washed out
