Co-hosts Japan are through to the last 16 after they eased to a comfortable 2-0 win over Tunisia in Osaka.

Goals from Hiroaki Morishima and Hidetoshi Nakata ensured top spot in Group H for Japan who now face Turkey in the second round.

After a goalless first half the deadlock was finally broken three minutes after the break when a weak clearance fell to Morishima and the substitute turned with a fine finish past Ali Boumnijel.

The goal sparked huge celebrations in the Nagai Stadium as the fans sensed a second round place beckoning for the first time in their history.

Hidetoshi Nakata made sure in the 75th minute when he threw himself at substitute Daisuke Ichikawa's cross, heading the ball through Boumnijel's legs to the delight of the 45,000 crowd.

Johan Walem opened the scoring for Belgium after just seven minutes with a free-kick which eluded the Russian wall and 'keeper Ruslan Nigmatullin.

Russia were level seven minutes into the second half as Vladimir Beschastnykh pounced on Geert de Vlieger's block before side-footing home from close range.

Substitute Wesley Sonck regained the lead for Belgium when he headed home Walem's corner and Marc Wilmots addd a decisive third when he fired past Nigmatullin from 18-yards out.

Dmitriy Sychyov pulled one back for Russia in the 88th minute but it was too little, too late as Belgium booked their place in the next round where they will face Brazil
