Othe weekend of the May 25 and 26 ten competitors representing Billingham Amateur Swimming Club travelled to Wolverhampton for the British Triathlon Championships.
The three disciplines, swim, shoot and run are part of the Modern Pentathlon and all the competitors in the championship had to qualify through regional competitions.
In the boys 11-12 year age group, David Lamb won the run, third in the swim and got a personal best (pb) in his shoot to finish second overall.
In the boys 13-14 year age group, Shane Hassall won the swim, seventh in the run and also got a pb in his shoot, to finish sixth overall.
In the girls 15-16 year age group, Emma Wilson got a pb in the swim and was fourth, had a good run but a slightly below par shoot to finish in 15th place overall.
In the 15-16 year boys age group, Mathew Sheehan, Ian Kelly and Peter Riddle formed a team as well as competing individually. All three boys put in a solid performance with Mathew getting a pb in the swim, Ian a pb in the run and Peter a pb in the shoot. The team finished in fourth place overall.
In the Masters Ladies section, Shirley Fawkes got pb's in the swim and the run, got fourth place in the shoot and finished in sixth place overall.
In the Masters men section, Dave Hassall, Mark Wilson and Guy Fawkes competed as a team as well as individually. Dave and Mark competing in their first championships rose to the occasion, Dave getting pb's in his run and shoot, Mark getting pb's in his swim and shoot. Dave finished in 21st place and Mark in 20th overall. Guy put in a solid performance all round and finished in fourth place overall, with the team picking up bronze medals.
On the following weekend seven swimmers from Billingham ASC competed in Middlesbrough ASC Open Meet taking place at the Neptune Centre in Berwick Hills.
Jane Usher got a pb in the 400m front crawl. Greg Dixon got pb's in the 200m and 400m front crawl. Brad Dixon got a pb in the 100m front crawl. Ian Kelly got a pb in the 100m breast and 100m front crawl. Peter Riddle got pb's in the 100m fly, 100m breast and the 200m front crawl.
Lorraine Riddle got a pb in the 200m backstroke. Jessica Trewin got pb's in the 400m front crawl, 100m breast and 100m backstroke.
