ENTRIES are flooding in for Darlington's athletic event of the year.
The borough council has received a host of entries since the Darlington 10km Road Run, which will take place on Sunday, August 11, was launched earlier this week.
More than 1,000 runners are expected to take part in the event, which this year takes a different route through the town centre, on a two-lap circuit.
Athletes from 13 to 18 can also take part in a 3.5km junior race for the first time.
Jeff Dawson, events manager for the council, said he was bombarded with inquiries yesterday.
"I think we should have quite a lot of entries because of the amount of interest people are showing," he said.
Darlington's CD Bramall Ford Dealership is the main sponsor of the event for the second year. It is also being supported by The Northern Echo and Darlington's local radio station, Alpha 103.2FM.
* The Northern Echo printed race organiser Jeff Dawson's telephone number incorrectly on yesterday's entry form. We apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused. Mr Dawson's correct number is (01325) 388427.
