A POLICEMAN is hoping local companies will help him replicate the stunts pulled off by Michael Caine and his team in the classic film The Italian Job - or at least the legal aspects of it.
Sergeant Paul Wren is among 100 drivers who give up their time for a run to Italy and back in October, all at the wheel of a Mini.
The idea is that they raise money for charity and, this year, Sgt Wren has set himself a target of £1,500, which will be donated to the National Children's Home Action for Children Appeal.
His main money-spinning event will be a charity auction at The Crown Inn, in Dishforth, later this year, and he is hoping to hear from firms across North Yorkshire willing to offer lots.
The names of those who come forward with donations will be displayed on his car during the trip across Europe, which he hopes will attract significant media interest.
Anyone who would like to be part of the event can contact Sgt Wren by writing to him at North Yorkshire Police HQ, Newby Wiske Hall, Northallerton, DL7 9HA.
