If Murton needed any reminder that nothing is certain in cricket then the fact was dramatically brought home to them on Tuesday when they were shot out for just 38 runs by Crook Town in the Drill Turn Trible Shield.
Just two days earlier they celebrated a weekend double when they bowled out two sides for a total of only 140 runs to open up a clear lead at the top of the table.
They need to regain form at Bill Quay this afternoon if they are to maintain the advantage they have built up over their rivals. Their chances are boosted with the return of Dale Butler, who takes over from Chris Howe.
Second-top Peterlee host another of the championship contenders Silksworth, whose chances were dealt a double blow last weekend when they were the only side not to bowl a ball in either game.
Two former NYSD players Nicky Beall and Neil Hewson return for Peterlee to the exclusion of Adam Maddison and Dave Wilson. Silksworth welcome the availability of Paul Bradford, who comes in for Paul Howe.
Seaham Park have moved off the bottom even though they are the only side yet to taste victory. They have the opportunity to open their account against basement team Houghton and with John Witton again sidelined, the Park promote second-team captain John Watson. Houghton retain the same XI who were on duty last Sunday.
Ryhope make several alterations to their line-up as they attempt to maintain their progress up the table at the expense of Easington. Gary Braithwaite, who has been in good form with the bat, cannot play and Kris Taylor is also unavailable.
Michael Briggs has returned from holiday and second-team skipper Glynn Lamb, who scored 93 last weekend, is promoted into Marc Hopkinson's line-up.
Easington are hopeful that David Kennedy may be able to play. He has missed recent matches through injury and his absence has been keenly felt.
Dawdon are stronger for their game at Castle Eden with David Coates resuming as captain. He will have the experienced Bobby Stephenson and Mark Ewart alongside him which means that promising youngster Anthony Gale reverts to the second team.
Castle Eden, with just one win in eight outings, name Craig Walker as replacement for David Garrigan.
Boldon CA, too near the bottom for comfort, host Hylton with Tony Middleton taking over from Tony Lincoln. Hylton are pleased that the talented David Batty is able to play especially as they miss John Ewart and Sean Robinson.
